New Commander Takes Over At Maxwell Air Force Base

There’s a new commander at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery.
Â
Colonel Andrea Tullos has taken over the 42nd Air Base Wing.
Â
The hangar was packed not only with airmen, but with local leaders from around the river region.
Â
With only a few minutes left in command on base, Colonel Trent Edwards had one last thing to say to his airmen.
Â
“It’s your sacrifice. It’s your leadership that make me want to salute you and say I am proud to be an American airman.”
Â
But then it was time to hand over the reigns to Colonel Andrea Tullos. She comes to Maxwell after working in the Pentagon for the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Â
There was a big round of applause as she officially took over the unit.
Â
“I can tell you we have only been in Montgomery for one week and it is absolutely clear why you are known as the best hometown in the Air Force. We have been welcomed with open arms and smiles and we are so excited to get to know everyone,” said Col. Tullos.
Â
The 42nd Air Base Wing is made up of almost 13,000 Â airmen and civilian workers. Many have had to face furloughs over the last year because of budget cuts.Â
Â
It’s a problem that Colonel Tullos is well aware of and she’s ready to tackle the issue.Â
Â
“Team play wins. That’s what we say. You know, it’s tough times with the Air Force with some resources drawn down and us losing some personnel, so teamwork is going to be critical for us to keep up the world class service we provide and to keep our airmen trained and ready.”
Â
Colonel Edwards is moving on to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas where he’ll be in charge of basic training for the entire Air Force.Â
