Runoff Needed in Senate Dist. 30 Race
The final vote tally in the Republican primary for state Senate District 30 shows a runoff will be necessary on July 15.
The Republican Party announced Wednesday that Prattville engineer Clyde Chambliss led the four-candidate race with 49.9 percent of the vote in the primary June 3. Chambliss will be in a runoff with Prattville businessman Harris Garner, who got 32 percent.
The race had been too close to call on election night. Chambliss needed top 50 percent to avoid a runoff.
The final results Wednesday also confirmed another close race in central Alabama. They showed that in House District 42, Rep. Kurt Wallace of Maplesville lost to former Rep. Jimmy Martin of Clanton, who got 50.6 percent of the vote. Four years ago, Wallace defeated Martin.
