$390K For Downtown Troy Streetscape Project

The state of Alabama awards the city of Troy with close to $400,000 for their downtown streetscape project.Â
Â
The federal funds will go towards repairing and extending sidewalks on six different streets around downtown. Landscaping will also be a part of the project.Â
Â
The city applied for the grant in May.
Â
Portions of the sidewalks have dangerous drop offs. They will be completely replaced making them handicap accessible.Â
Â
Troy Mayor Jason Reeves said, “It is really going to enhance our downtown. We are going to get about 4 dollars for every one dollar that the city is going to spend. It is going to be about a half a million dollar project. Green spaces, sidewalks, making sidewalks ADA compliant- so it will really enhance what we feel is the heart of our community which is our downtown.”Â
Â
All plans must be submitted to the state department of transportation for approval. So, the project is not expected to be complete for about one year.Â
