Montgomery to Get Smart911 Service

Montgomery will soon have a new mobile-safety enabled service that will allow residents to get necessary information to 911 dispatchers quicker.

The service is called Smart911 and it allows you to get critical information to first responders faster. Ty Fondren is the Regional Director of AT&T and says the service is revolutionary.

“Citizens can go online, fill out a profile and provide information on their health conditions, locations of bedrooms in their house, disabilities, any kind of thing that would be relevant.”

911 dispatchers will then have that critical information available to them and can advise emergency responders of special conditions within a home before they arrive on the scene.  Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says the service will be valuable.

“Certainly getting to the scene of a situation with the police department is critical, but knowing everything that you need to know by going into that situation, because they go into harms way all the time. “

Fondren says AT&T is working to get the word out about the service, but says the city will play a big role in making residents aware of its usefulness.

“Information helps save lives, so for instance, if someone calls 911, they’re not going to be in the best frame of mind,” he explains. “They’re going to be excited, they’re going to be anxious, they’re going to forget key things.”

Some Montgomery residents we spoke with say they’re looking forward to using Smart911.

“I think that is really valuable especially for elderly people that have heart condition or high blood pressure or something like that,” says Anthony James.

“Just in case of an emergency like if your child is in danger or even if a child is missing,” says Alexis Contreras.

“Smart 911 will also soon be available in Montgomery County, Autauga County and is currently available in Dallas County.

The service is completely free for those with all phone service providers, not just AT&T. To create your online profile, just go to Smart911 dot com. The service will be available in Montgomery toward to end of summer.
