The city of Prattville is just a short distance from Montgomery, but it is striving to keep its own distinct identity.

Prattville launched the Creekwalk concert series to try to bring more people downtown to experience what makes the city special.

This is the first concert of it’s kind in downtown Prattville.

People here are excited to see even more going on in a town they care so much about.

The stage is set right by Autauga Creek flowing through downtown Prattville.

It’s a new idea that Mayor Bill Gillespie says was inspired by local hotels.

Tuesdays are their busiest days, but there wasn’t a lot to do in town.

“We’re not out to compete with Montgomery. We’re just trying to offer what we have to offer and hopefully people will come and see that we’re just a friendly town and some might want to come and see this is what they’re looking for,” said Mayor Gillespie.

The city has been around almost 200 years and has a lot of charm. That’s one thing that keeps people around.

“I just love Prattville. I’ve been here all of my life, it’s just a good place. It’s home,” said Paulette Goodson.

Downtown businesses have fallen in love with that hometown feel too.

“There’s a smalltown feel here, smalltown USA. And I don’t mean that derogatorily. It’s just a good feeling. We have a lot of folks come up from Montgomery and when they come up, they like the ambiance,” said Stephen Brooks, co-owner of Carol Brooks Home and Holiday.

“Me being kind of brand new actually to this city, I kind of fell in love with it immediately. Just the great sense of community,” said Bryan Carasiti at Fox’s Pizza Den.

Even though many residents of the city work in Montgomery, Goodson says Prattville is still home for them too.

“There are a lot of people that do do that, but they want to raise their family here. I think it’s it’s own.”
