Are big changes coming to a small Central Alabama town? If community and business leaders in Eclectic get their way, that could soon be happening downtown.

The town’s leaders are applying for a $40,000 grant. That money would go toward a plan that would focus on business opportunities and infrastructure improvements.

Town leaders say they’ve already been working on re-paving sidewalks along main street and renovating some older buildings to re-purpose them for community events. They say because of that work, some new restaurants have come to town. The town’s mayor says the grant could go a long way toward making a difference.

“We hire people to come in and evaluate our downtown, our infrastructure, our downtown locations, our buildings, our business district and determine how we can best use our existing structures and how we can improve on those,” said Mayor Gary Davenport.

The grant money would come from the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission. The town hopes to get approval within a year.
