Pike Co. Sheriff’s Office Hosts Firearms Class For Women

Some Pike County women today were embracing their right to bear arms.Â
Â
Eight women took part in the free women’s firearms familiarization class. Our own Troy Newsroom reporter Sarah Cantey also got in on the action.Â
Â
It’s been put on for about 20 years by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.Â
Â
Instructors teach firearm fundamentals and safet. And get the women out on the range and let them shoot until they are comfortable.Â
Â
Jodi Long said, “Very important to be familiar with it. I think that is a huge problem that we have is people want to just go and buy a gun and you are not really doing any good with it if you don’t know how to shoot it. And you cant defend yourself. And that’s the point of owning a handgun in my opinion.”
Â
Sgt, Henry Wentland said, “All shot well and we had a good time. That’s the main thing and get comfortable, have a good time and enjoy yourself. And get over your fears and jitters.”
