Alabama Having Early Success Getting To QBs

Alabama’s efforts to be more effective harassing opposing quarterbacks is paying off so far.

The third-ranked Crimson Tide has three sacks in each of its first two games and five players have at least one. Alabama had that many sacks only three times in 13 games last season.

Tide offensive tackle Austin Shepherd says he could “go on forever” about the difficulties blocking defensive teammates like A’Shawn Robinson, D.J. Pettway and Jonathan Allen.

Linebacker Xzavier Dickson had two sacks against West Virginia. Alabama also has 12 tackles for loss already.

The sack numbers are more impressive considering the style of offenses Alabama has faced. Tide coach Nick Saban says his defense has seen more screens and balls thrown behind the line than downfield attempts, leaving less time for pass rushers.
