Golden Anniversary Celebration and Movie Put Spotlight on Selma

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  The eyes of the world will be focused on the city of Selma in 2015 and residents share what they would like for the world to see.

The soon to be released movie ‘Selma’ will kick off a year-long celebration commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Selma Voting Rights Movement of 1965.

Mayor George Evans says he hopes all the attention makes more people want to visit the city.

“I want them to come to Selma and recognize and identify and explore the history,” said Evans.

The movie ‘Selma’ opens in theaters January 9th.

The 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery march — is March 5th through 9th.
