River Jam 2015 kicked off at the Union Station Train Shed Friday night.
Folks we talked to say they came to celebrate.
“We came out tonight to celebrate my friends Tiffany’s Birthday. They have shirts on together saying its my girl’s birthday. And we wanted to see OTI and Soul Tree tonight so we’re out at the shed hoping to have a good time with friends,” said Felecia McBride.
The Alabama Roots Music Society partners with the city as well as other sponosrs to put on the event each year.
“We try to get more regional acts that are touring in the area that folks otherwise wouldn’t get a chance to see,” said AL Roots member Gary Greenshields.
OTI, Soul Tree, and King Bee played Friday night. Some say they came to see their favorites.
“King Billy, I think he’s the second performance and we saw him downtown here before and so we came back because we love his music,” said Maggie Hanley.
“Just like the energy of the music and just like having fun. Everybody is just having fun,” said Caroline Hanley.
And the fun will continue Saturday.
“We are going to kick it off on the amphitheater stage down by the river with Jess Meuse. And then following Jess Meuse, will be Glen David Andrews, well known musician out of New Orleans. We also will have The Weeks a great Indie rock band. Then finish up the night with Black Jack Billy, a high energy country band,” said organizer Ken Reynolds.
And don’t forget Brewfest.
“Six different distributors representing over 50 different breweries. Cost for the tickets is only 25 dollars. You can get them at the gate or online.”
Brewfest starts at 3:30, River Jam starts at 4:30 and is free to the public.
A fireworks show will take place after the bands wrap up at 10:30pm.
