No New Trial for Former Gov. Don Siegelman

A federal appeals court has upheld the bribery conviction and prison sentence of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.

The appeals court ruled that Siegelman would not get a new trial.  The judges also upheld his 78-month prison sentence.

Siegleman was convicted in 2006 on federal bribery charges. His lawyers say the trial was tainted by a U.S. Attorney with ties to Republican politics. Siegelman is a Democrat.

Siegelman is scheduled to be released from prison in 2017.
