A golf tournament was held in Montgomery to benefit MDA.

Golfers came out to the Wynlakes Golf Course  to take a swing at helping to fight Muscular Dystrophy at the annual MDA Corporate Golf Classic.

The tournament may take on extra meaning with the end of the annual MDA Labor Day Telethon, which was carried for years on CBS 8 and other local stations across the country. In recent years, the ABC network broadcast the telethon, which had been dramatically shortened.

But now that the national telethon has been cut., the MDA is looking to find other ways to generate funding and bring awareness to the fight against MD.

“The non-profit industry is always changing. It’s always a competitive market, because the fact of it is your partners can choose anyone to partner with, and I thinks it’s about aligning yourselves with people that have your vision,” Christy Cruse, the MDA fundraising coordinator for our area, said.

Alabama News Network sponsoreed one of the golfing holes of the classic, along with Winn Dixie, which was the overall sponsor of the event.
