The Urban Slide Draws Thousands to Downtown Montgomery

Thousands of people found a way to beat the summer heat this weekend in the capital city. The Urban Slide opened Saturday for its 2-day weekend event, and it seemed to be a big hit.

The 1,000ft slip-and-slide was set up Saturday morning on Montgomery Street. It kicked off at 10:00am, with its last rider sliding down at 6:00pm. There was a nighttime session for the slide Saturday night from 8:00pm until 10:00pm, fully decked out with music, LED, and black lights.

Overall, nearly 2,500 people hit downtown to take a ride on the Urban Slide, but the big question is now: Was this a one-time event for the city of Montgomery, or will the Urban Slide return next year?

“After coming out here and seeing all these people, and enjoying it, we definitely want to come back,” says Urban Slide Vice President Derrest Williams. “We’ve already talked to other people inside the company, and I think it’s a place we’d like to come back [to].”
