It was a fairy tale come true for some Montgomery girls today. Around 60 girls aged 4-13 got the royal treatment in the inaugural ‘Princess-in-Training’ camp on the Alabama State University campus. Miss ASU Muriel Pannell hosted the camp that taught the girls about manners and etiquette, as well as self esteem. Each princess-in-training got a ticket to as ASU football game, and — of course — a sash, crown, and other royal goodies.
“[It allows] the chance to truly understand the essence of what it means to be a princess,” says Miss ASU, Muriel Pannell. “It isn’t necessarily all about the glitz and the glamor. You can pick up a soccer ball or basketball, and be a tomboy too. It’s just getting to know who you are as a young lady.”
This was the first year for the Princess-In-Training, and officials hope this will be the start of an annual royal tradition.
