No General Fund Budget as Special Session Ends

Alabama lawmakers ended a special session without a budget solution as a political chasm widens between Republicans in the state House of Representatives and Senate.

Lawmakers left Montgomery Tuesday after the special session hit a 30-day time limit without agreeing on taxes or cuts to address a budget shortfall.

The House on Monday voted down Senate-passed budget cuts by an overwhelming 92-2 vote.

Gov. Robert Bentley is expected to call lawmakers back for a second special session.

Senate budget chairman Arthur Orr says he is urging Bentley to wait some time before calling lawmakers back to Montgomery.

Republican Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh says he is baffled that some House members seemed angry at the Senate since House members did not approve any revenue bills.
