The last day of the expo was full of shopping, shooting and sharing. Younger hunters and outdoor lovers were all more than ready to hear advice and wisdom from marksmen with more experience. And that is one of the most important aspects of the Buckmasters expo.

Braleigh Walker is a ten-year-old girl who rarely misses her target. She’s one of the many children enjoying the Young Buck’s activity room. And she isn’t shy about sharing her opinions

“I think that all kids should… All kids should come here and learn how to shoot a bow and arrow,” Braleigh said.

And that’s just what the 4-H Club is doing. Middle to high school students showed off their shooting skills by competing with professional bow hunters at the convention. Expo coordinator Donna Gross, says the most important goal of the expo is to teach younger people more about nature.

“We need these kids,” Gross said. “We need this kids to carry on the hunting, the outdoors. Too many kids are behind a computer or behind a laptop or a cell phone and we encourage kids to get out and go fishing, go hunting… We’ve gotta keep this going on for future generations.

Buckmasters Expo is reaching this goal by partnering with the 4-H Club, an organization that encourages the positive growth and development of children.m Emily Nichols, 4-H extension specialist, says that partnering with the Buckmasters Expo has really given more exposure to the 4-H club. And her organization is helping younger generations fall in love with the outdoors again.

“That’s what’s so great about our natural resource and environmental education program with 4H,” Nichols said. “That it is the learning by doing environment and exposing youth to their surroundings and letting them explore and they learn how to be better stewards of the environment.

And Nichols told me she’s starting a new fishing group for 4H Club members to join. She hopes that they’ll be able to include a lot more of that activity at next year’s Buckmaster’s Expo.
