Public Safety Director Responds to Recent MPD Officer Arrests

Three Montgomery Police officers have been arrested since July.
Public Safety Director Chris Murphy tells us that behavior will not be tolerated.
Â
Murphy says the police department has more than 500 officers. He calls the incidents a “bad cycle.”
But he also says the city takes this very seriously.
There is a criminal charge as well as an administrative charge for those officers.
He says the public should not lose confidence in the department.Â
Â
“I think what people would want to judge is– is it swept under the rug? Is there winking and nodding or decisive action being taken? I think we have a pretty good record of if we have these situations, we’re going to hold these people accountable and hold them to that higher standard. There are a lot of really good officers that do their job every day with passion and commitment and professionalism,” said Murphy.
Â
Director Murphy says they do talk to the officers about their behavior and they understand what is expected of them.
