Legislature Approves Budget, Now Waiting Governor’s Signature

The Senate and House both approved a $1.7 billion General Fund with over 2 million in cuts Wednesday night.

Many state offices were also cut, including $50 thousand from the Governor’s Office.

Senator Arthur Orr says, “I think it’s a good budget. We did three things. We unearmarked a good bit of money for longterm budget reform. We made some cuts and we had additional revenues that came to bear. We all did the best we could with what we had.”

The Top 5 core agencies will remain at level funding, including DHR, mental health, Medicaid, prisons, and courts. Other agencies will have a 5 percent cut.

The budget will now go to the Governor for final approval.
