River Region Fourth Annual Prayer Walk

Hundreds of people attended the fourth Annual River Region Prayer Walk in downtown Montgomery. Walkers gathered at the Union Station train shed Saturday morning with one mission: to pray.

“To pray over our community, to pray over all the citizens, and to pray over our entire country,” Vicki Dendis shared before she began walking.

The group started the event walking to different stops around downtown. They focused their prayers towards different groups from first responders to local politicians, all in an effort to reach out to Montgomery.

“I spoke to people that were walking along the side of the road that were wondering what was going on and I got the chance to tell them what we were doing in the name of Christ,” Ron Baumgardener said after his walk.

The importance of the event is not lost on the even the smallest of walkers. Caleb Strange is only seven, and enjoys walking every year with his family. He said he walks because, “it’s blessing the Lord and making him happy.”

The main message behind the event—it doesn’t matter where you pray or who you pray with.

“Whether we come together collectively as a body on the streets of Montgomery, AL or whether we’re in our churches or other homes, it is very important to pray,” Dendis said.”That is how we communicate with our Father and we need to intercede on the behalf of others as well as for our own families.”

Organizers say the event will continue to be non-denominational, and open to everyone in the community. They already have the date for next year picked out. The fifth annual River Region Prayer Walk will take place on October first, 2016.
