Businesses Boom On Eastern Boulevard
It’s hard to miss all of the construction and coming soon signs as you drive down Eastern Boulevard.Â
It’s a different look from the boarded up windows and empty storefronts that many people may have gotten used to.
“Lots of new retail going in. Rehabing some existing space to get ready for new stores and then a couple of new construction. the fortunate thing about that is it’s all private driven, the city hasn’t been involved in any of that,” said Melanie Golson with the city’s Department of Development.
Â
She says that’s just the way she likes it.Â
Â
One of the newest stores for the area is Gander Mountain. It’s only been open a few months, but its neighbor across the street has already noticed a difference.
Â
“Well it’s always wonderful to have new businesses on the eastern bypass. For a couple of years it kind of looked like we were going downhill. But we’re fortunate that Gander Mountain has come, we’ve got UHAUL beside us, we’ve got Rudy’s,” said Michael Cohen with Cohen’s Electronics.
Â
And soon the area will welcome a new mattress store, an AT&T and several other retailers.
While the city has spent a lot of time and money revamping downtown.
Â
Golson says the bypass hasn’t been forgotten.
Â
“Several areas in town get glossed over but Eastern Boulevard, it’s still heavily traveled. I mean it’s got high traffic counts and that’s what retailers look for. I think it’s just the right mix of retailers that are coming back into Montgomery.”
