Police officers doing bad things- that’s the headline filling the news for the past year. But, Central Alabama Crimestoppers is hoping to shed light on local law enforcement doing good.

Crimestoppers is teaming up with Alabama News Network exclusively to award the “Officer of the Month.” This month, the award going to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy James Richardson.

His supervisor nominated him.

On his way to work at the end of November, he noticed his wife and a neighbor tending to a man who had collapsed on the ground.

Deputy Richardson stopped and did CPR for about 19 minutes, keeping the man alive. He later died at the hospital, but that time gave his wife time to say goodbye.

Deputy James Richardson, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, “It’s good to know whether it’s a job well done, a pat on the back, or something like this is that your efforts don’t go unnoticed.”

Rodney Barrett, Lieutenant, “There is some possible law enforcement out there that may have drive by the park that day. And saw someone down and said ‘well someone else will take care of it.’ he’s not that type of person, he’s a professional. He saw something and he took action.”

Deputy Richardson’s only been in law enforcement for less than a year. He’s retired from the Air Force after 26 years of service.

Congratulations to him! Alabama News Network will feature a new officer from across Central Alabama each month.
