The Montgomery county District Attorney’s office is always looking for ways to get murderers off the streets. This year they’re pushing for stiffer bonds for alleged killers. Officials say it will make a big difference.
By law the max bail for murder suspects in $75,000, unless otherwise approved by a judge. The DA’s office says last year eight suspected criminals paid their bond, and committed the same, or another crime soon after. That’s just one reason Montgomery County District Attorney Bailey says his office is determined to push for higher bonds.
The District Attorney’s office says they’re hoping the Alabama Supreme Court will look into changing the law when it comes to bail sometime this year.
