Attorney General Luther Strange goes to Capitol Hill with a message for the U.S, Senate. He says Obama’s recent executive actions on guns will do nothing to address gun violence and will be hurtful towards lawful gun owners.

Strange was invited to testify in front of the senate committee.  He said that all the President’s actions will do is intimidate law abiding citizens from selling their guns out of fear of being prosecuted for not registering as a firearms dealer. Strange said he reached out to local police chief to hear their thoughts on how to curb gun violence.
He offered three solutions- enforce laws already on the books, prosecute individuals for gun related crimes and stop releasing violent criminals before their sentence is up.  He also said it’s critical to fund NICS- or National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

Strange said, “We can do better with that system. With more funding and support the state’s can ensure that every felony and conviction is reported to the system. Because if if the information isn’t in the system, the system cannot work. And just as importantly, when the system does work we find felons attempting to buy guns and we prosecute them.”
Four other people spoke before the committee today, including U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch
