The ride sharing service Uber is set to begin in Montgomery, but drivers and passengers will have to wait a little longer than expected.

The city council’s vote Tuesday night postponed the official start of the ride sharing service after some concerns were raised.

Councilman Fred Bell says he is not against Uber, but does have concerns about the screening process.
During our TalkBack segment, Bell said:
“Prior to the passage of this new ordinance, taxi cab drivers had to go to the doctor and had to be examined yearly. The doctor had to send a certification that those persons were able to drive a taxi cab– that is no longer the case. The inspection of the cars was done by the city. Now there is a third party. I’m not against Uber. I hope that it works, I pray that it works. I just thought we need to keep the safe guards,” said Bell.
Uber does require background checks and vehicle inspections.
The council will take the issue up again in two weeks. That is when the ordinance is expected to pass.
