Controversial New Walmart Market More Welcome Now

It's been a year since the Walmart on Federal Drive has been approved. Neighbors in the area once opposed to the new building in the neighborhood are now having other thoughts.

A controversial new Walmart Market is set to open Wednesday at the former Bonnie Crest Country Club on Federal Drive.

Residents were very opposed to the new store coming in when they first heard about it last year.
Despite their protest, the city council voted to approve the zoning for it.
But neighbors we talked to now say they are welcoming it.

“Yes, I’m happy it’s coming. The community needs it because there are a lot of people that live way up in north Montgomery, all up Coliseum, all up Northern Boulevard that have no grocery store,” said Gabriele Wenzlow.

“I hope they have organic food because the doctor has put my son on organic food,” said Fran Mathis.
The new Walmart Neighborhood Market will open at 7:30 am Wednesday.
Another Walmart Market is also being built in east Montgomery near Taylor and Vaughn Roads.
That store is set to open in March.
