Though the Iowa Caucus does not directly affect Montgomery or local voters, they still plan on watching to see what happens with the Presidential race.

IOWACAUCUS

With the caucus only one day away, Alabama voters are asking themselves who they want to see as president.

“Probably to be a party man, would probably be Rubio, but I think it’ll be between Rubio and Cruz and Trump,” said Montgomery resident Thomas Ballow.

Ballow says he hopes for a Republican President in Marco Rubio, but does not think his pick will make it all the way.

“I really think that Hillary will win because of voting blocks that she has throughout the country,” he said. When asked if he thought she would be the best choice, Ballow said, “I don’t think so, but I think she’ll win!”

Others are not so much picking a party, but hoping for a better person to lead the country.

“Whichever party wins or whichever candidate wins, I would like them to be able to right the ship that is the United States. And right now, it’s looking more like the Titanic. And there are not enough life boats,” said Montgomery resident Jeanne Travis.

Travis is hoping for a president that will take care of the country she loves so much. She thinks two on the Republican side can do that.

“Carly Fiorina and Christie would probably be the best two picks. They understand the economy,” she said.

Iowa is just the start of the election season, and a win there does not guarantee the nomination. Residents in Montgomery just want a candidate who will take care of their country.

“I just hope whoever we get will try and do some things to help the country out on the economy and also on immigration and try to get some things under control a little better,” Ballow said.

“My best hope on either party, someone who understands how great this nation is, and we still have a lot of potential,” Travis said. “There are millions of Americans who want better. Not only for themselves, but their children and their grandchildren.”

The Iowa Caucus is the first of the year. New Hampshire is the next state to have a caucus, and that begins February 9. Alabama’s primary is March 1.
