SEC Primary Preps: Online Registration

The SEC Primary election is one month away.

The campaigning is in full effect as candidates spent the day vying for votes in Iowa.

Back in Alabama, voters have mixed feelings when it comes to the candidates and the election.

“I think we need to come together and remember what the United States mean… right now in my opinion it’s the ‘divided states,'” said Elijah Hood.

“There are some interesting candidates on the board I think. But I’m not looking forward to the mudslinging,” said Neil David Seibel.

The good news is registering for the primary will be easier for voters.
We talked to Secretary of State John Merrill on the phone about the new electronic registration.

“You already have a driver license or photo ID card, it will allow you to gain access and put in the appropriate number so we know what your address is, we know where your place of residence is, we know what district you need to be in, so that is the security mechanism that is in place. You don’t have to give your information on a piece of paper and turn it in to a complete stranger,” said Merrill.

Merrill also believes allowing ex-convicted felons the chance to vote again is important. That’s why he supports two bills that will be introduced in the legislature this upcoming session that will help them get transitioned back into society.

“We don’t want them just drawing on society anymore. We want them contributing to society again. We need them to be able to participate in the electoral process once they have paid all the fines and fees,” said Merrill.
