MCCONNELL

We are less than three week’s away from Alabama voters hitting the polls for the primaries. And there’s one crowded race to keep an eye on.
Senator Richard Shelby’s seat is facing opposition by four candidates and at least one may be putting up a tough fight.

Jonathan McConnell, a business owner, veteran and now playing his hand at politics.

He says it’s time to challenge a man almost 50 years his senior.  Senator Richard Shelby’s spent nearly three decades in Congress.

McConnell said, “Personally I am sick of career politicians that go up there and talk but don’t do. They talked about repealing Obamacare if we gave them the house or the senate. We gave them the senate they didn’t bother to repeal it and lay at President Obama’s feet.”

But it’s an uphill battle to the senate. Political Analyst Steve Flowers says Shelby has $18 million in his war chest.

Steve Flowers, Political Analyst said, “It’s around 91 to 95 percent because incumbents garner all the endorsements, all the campaign money, all the money in Washington goes to incumbents.”

McConnell said, “Aren’t you afraid of running against Richard Shelby? I’m like I’ve seen a lot of things in my life to be afraid of, I’ve fought two tours in Iraq. I’ve been all over the world especially dealing with radical Islam, and 81-year-old Richard Shelby is not something to be afraid of.”
If there’s a runoff, it’ll be on April 12th.
