Aston Martin: Not building in Alabama
New plant will go to South Wales instead.
The car-builder announced the decision overnight, saying the quality of the workforce in South Wales was one factor that convinced them to build there.
About 750 high-salary jobs go with the plant. Construction will begin in 2017, and car production is expected to begin in 2020.
Alabama was the only American site on the list of 20 finalists that was announced last Fall. At the time, the Aston Martin CEO said Alabama was “an obvious choice when you take a complete platform from Daimler but that’s not necessarily the only option that you have.”
No immediate reaction from Alabama officials, and no word on what incentives South Wales offered Aston Martin to win the competition.
