Lee High School student Roderic Scott died this afternoon as a result of injuries from a car accident Thursday morning. Scott was the son of Lee Coach Rodney Scott.
Scott suffered swelling of the brain following the crash where he thrown clear around the interstate. Scott and other passengers were traveling on I-65 in the northbound lane. Following the crash, Scott was found on the other side of the southbound lane of the interstate.
“This is a tragic day for Montgomery Public Schools,” said Superintendent Margaret Allen. “We are devastated anytime we lose one of our students. Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with Coach Scott and his family.”
Scott was one of five students injured in an accident that occurred in a private vehicle that was transporting the students to a basketball tournament in Birmingham. State Troopers reported that three of the five occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the accident. Scott was the most seriously injured and was transported by helicopter to the hospital.
“Roderic was an excellent student and a leader at our school,” said Lee Principal Lorenzo Pharrams. “He will be missed.”
Counselors are at the school and will be as long as needed.
