Mobile Heights SignThere is a still a lot of frustration and anger over Greg Gunn’s death.  But when you talk to residents who live in the Mobile Heights neighborhood, especially those who have lived there for most of their lives, they just want justice, no matter who is conducting the investigation.

Many residents told Alabama News Network they want and need a strong police presence patrolling Mobile Heights, however it’s hard to build a trusting relationship following Gunn’s death.

We also showed them a recent post on MPD’s Facebook page.  It shows police chief Ernest Finley standing beside the officer accused Gunn’s Death,  Aaron Smith.  The picture also shows Finley with a smile and a caption that reads “MPD supports their men and women in blue.”

Longtime resident Jackie Donald says she’s been a supporter of Chief Finely, but says taking the picture was the wrong thing to do.

“Sitting there, smiling like it was a nice, casual meeting.  I thought that was kind of disrespectful, to the family and the community,” Donald said.

Another Mobile Heights resident, Joe Burton told us he just wants to know exactly what happened the night of Gunn’s death.  But he also knows that building back trust with police won’t be easy.

“When I see police now and since this is all up in the air, I Just look at them and say like, where do we go from here? If we can’t trust the police, you know who do we call?”
