Two Bullock County teenage girls lost their lives in a car wreck last weekend, while two others are in the hospital. The community came out to honor their memory Friday night at a candlelight vigil.

VIGIL PIC 2Over 300 people gathered at Harris Park in Midway.

“This issue was so devastating that it touched everybody in this community. The whole county has been touched,” said Union Springs Mayor Saint Thomas.

They are a community in disbelief. Two teenage girls– Chelsey Person and Jalyric Tarver– now gone.

“I had just seen Chelsey, it just don’t seem real,” said a relative of Chelsey Person.

It was a time to stand with each other.

The community wrote messages to Chelsey and Jalyric on lanterns and released them, lighting up the night’s sky.

Earlier in the day, Bullock County High School held their own balloon release to help students cope as grief counselors were there to help them through this difficult time.

“They say that time heals all, and this much I know is true, so hang in there my dearest friend and together we’ll see it through,” said organizer Chanelle Jackson, reading a poem.

A fund has been set up for the families of all four students involved in that accident.
