Alabama has an official state flag, a state bird and flower... Now lawmakers have voted on a state cake.

As time ticks down for lawmakers to discuss the many pressing issues brought before them in the legislature, they can now say they at least decided on a state cake.
The “Lane cake,” mentioned in Harper Lee’s novel “To Kill a Mocking Bird,” dates back to the 19th century.
The dessert is usually made with pecans, coconut flakes and may be a splash of bourbon.lane_cakeal

“Sounds like it might be ok. But I don’t know. I’ve never heard of it!” said Dale Fladung.

“I just don’t see the significance of it. And I feel like if we are paying taxes, it should go to things that matter that are going to effect everyone, not just the people in the legislature,” said Destiny Turner.
We asked our Facebook fans what they think….
And got the same reaction.

Carolyn Wright says, “Nothing surprises me anymore from those idiots. They brought this up last session. We can blame them but the ultimate blame belongs to the people of this state who keep voting for them over and over.”

Charlene Powell says, “Ridiculous!!!!! Not a matter of top priority. Evidently nothing is!!!!!”

Wanda Landers says, “Good, a state cake will remind us of what a great state Alabama could be and more.”

People we talked to say they could think of some better ways for the lawmakers to use their time.

“Immigration, jobs, the governor…” said Fladung.

“The legislature has many more important things to focus on. There is room for fun things, but at the same time, our education system needs a lot of work, we have a lot of crime issues here. We have gun issues and lots of other thing that need focus more than the cake issue,” said Turner.
