Thursday, ASU students will remember the life of fellow student, Demetrius Bell. The ASU Student Government Association will host a candlelight vigil in honor of Bell.

SGA President Shane Parks will preside over the tent, which will include remarks by students, University officials and a moment of prayer.

The public is encouraged to come out and show solidarity and respect for Bell’s family and friends as well as mourn this tragic event.

Balloons mark the tree of the fatal crash on ASU’s campus.

According to police, it happened Monday evening. 24-year-old student Demetrius Bell was a passenger in the car and later died from his injuries. Students on campus say it’s a tragic loss.

“It’s sad because when you think about it, it could have been me. It could have been one of my friends. But it hurts more that it was a student that attended our school,” said CaTera Christie.

Demetrius Lewis agrees.  “Even if you know the person or don’t know the person, a death is a death and it’s going to be sad anyway.”

Bell’s friends took to social media to express their thoughts.

Hakoh Kosaka posted this on facebook: “I’m in so much disbelief that such an awesome person is taken away from us. Nothing but positive words can describe this man.”
Krystal Khris Cruz posted: “Such a great and memorable friend. I remember our track days….homecoming….prom. You were so silly yet your heart was so big.”

MPD is continuing its investigation of the crash. They have charged 21-year old June Malaefou with murder. They believe alcohol was a factor.
