parkcrossingstudentAt first glance, Park Crossing High School senior Montaeus Bell looks like any other student.  But the the wheel chair he used to get to and from class sets him apart but doesn’t hold him back.  Bell is set to graduate at the end of May and when he does, he says he will walk across the stage to receive his diploma.

It was just over a year ago on May 11, 2015  Bell was critically injured in a car accident.  The accident left him paralyzed.  The former starting catcher for Park Crossing’s baseball team had his life turned upside down in an instant.  For the next several months Bell would undergo different surgeries and countless hours of physical therapy.  But no matter the challenge, Bell knew he would walk again.

“I always kept telling myself to keep going because I think about where I was right at the beginning of the injury and where I’m at now and if I keep on going, who knows where I’ll be,” Bell said.

Now, with the help of a brace and a walker bell can take those steps he’s dreamed of on graduation day.  He’s confident that one day he will walk completely on his own again and not need a wheelchair.

“I can still go and accomplish something in life, this isn’t it. My life isn’t over.”

Upon graduating, Bell plans to attend Auburn Montgomery where he will major in physical therapy.
