“A Walk in Their Shoes” for a Good Cause
Notable men and women in Montgomery stepped out for a good cause Thursday night... Only they did it in each others' shoes.
It’s a night to remember for sure as men like Police Chief Ernest Finley, City councilman Glen Pruitt and even a priest strutted their stuff in women’s shoes.
“I’m standing in 6 inch stiletto heels. I went out and shopped with former District Attorney Ellen Brooks, she helped pick them out. I’m sure there is a good joke in a priest and the DA walk into a women’s shoe store and the priest walks out with stilettos. I just don’t know what the punch line is!” said Rev. Andrew Thayer, Rector at Church of the Ascension.
But all the laughter and fun was for a very serious cause– those abused by domestic violence.
“In the Montgomery area, we’ve been up since 2010 and seen over 6 thousand victims in this community. I think it’s very important because family is the fabric of our community and domestic violence is destroying that fabric,” said Nathan Cook, Exec. Director of One Place Family Justice Center.
Cook says he wants to not only raise funds for “One Place,” but also raise awareness about it in the community as these men and women step out for the cause.
“I think it is very important walking in the shoes of others, especially of those who are in the margins of society…. Especially those who are victims of abuse,” said Thayer.
