It’s been weeks since allegations of an affair with an adviser and possible misuse of state funds surfaced. A usually tight lipped governor, now opening up about some of the claims.
One of the allegations is that the Governor purchased burner cellphones. He claims that’s a rumor. A report that is true—that members of the Governor’s staff have to sign a non-disclosure agreement. But probably the most questionable claim, the allegation that the governor used a private email to for public business. It’s a claim he didn’t exactly deny.
Governor Robert Bentley said, “All of that is public record. All they have to do is go and ask the person who either sent the email that’s public or received an email from me and they can get it. That’s public record.”
As for the non-disclosure agreements, the governor says that policy was not started by him, but by his new chief of staff.
