55th Anniversary of the Freedom Riders of Montgomery
The city of Montgomery is commemorating the 55th anniversary of the freedom riders. 20 freedom riders attended today’s festivities for all the freedom riders, especially the 21 college students who rode the greyhound bus in Montgomery in protest.
The day was filled with several event. City officials, as well as civil rights leaders who played an intricate part in the movement all came together. For many it’s a time to say thank you to the brave souls who sacrificed for the rights of African Americans. There will be more festivities on Saturday, including a freedom bike ride stating at 8:00 a.m. at the freedom riders museum.
