Community Leaders React on Alabama Kids Count Ranking

Some leaders in the community find Alabama’s ranking at 46 in the nation, alarming in the latest Kids Count Report.

Officials with voices for Alabama’s Children now is the time to start mapping out a plan for the future. They say this year’s data is a reminder of what it is important for children to be involved in summer enrichment programs. Leaders believe getting involved is one way to prevent learning loss in the summer.

“The more that we encourage this type of interaction within our community, the less time they have to think about being bored or looking at other options,” says Rhonda Mann of VOICES for Alabama’s Children.

In December, a kids county data book will be released that shows how each county in Alabama ranks in the well being of children across the state.
