Preventing Summer Learning Loss
While kids are getting a break from the classroom, there are still many programs that try to prevent summer learning loss.
Kids are participating in vacation bible school and garden initiatives. Coordinators say both programs enhance skills already learned in school. Troy’s Christian Love Center also offers garden education in their pre-k program. The summer initiative gives kids a head start in that program.
“Children that are healthier-they tend to make better grades, they tend to succeed-be better students, they tend to be more active,” says Lawanda Bell of Troy’s Christian Love Center.
