Security a High Priority for Montgomery Gay Pride Event
Montgomery gay pride festivities begin tomorrow, but the big question is how will law enforcement protect event goers in wake of the Orlando shootings? The event is expected to attract vendors and people from all over. The main event will be on Sunday where participants will march to the Alabama State Capitol, having a rally. One of the biggest concerns for this event is security for the participants. Pride organizers say fear is high after the shooting in Orlando that left 49 people dead and over 50 injured. Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley says in light of the shooting, the department is ramping up efforts to keep people safe.
“We’re going to give a lot of love, a lot of attention to ensure that safety is that paramount that we think about. It’s always going to be in the back of our mind, because we cant control the way people think,” says Finley.
