Historic St. James Hotel in Selma Up For Sale

STJFrom the West Alabama Newsroom–

New ownership could soon be on the way to the historic St. James Hotel in Selma.

The city council recently voted to put the property up for sale and city officials say there’s been some interest.

City leaders say perspective buyers are already lining up with offers to buy the historic St. James Hotel.

The 42-room historic landmark sits on prime real estate in downtown Selma.

It’s nestled between Water Avenue and the Alabama River.

Mayor George Evans says the hotel appraised at over $900,000 dollars.

He says terms of the final deal will likely include more than just what’s on the price tag.

“Buying a hotel is not enough, ” said Evans. “If you buy it there are certain things that must happen in the hotel in terms of improvements. So, its not going to be just something you buy and it is as is.”

City leaders met Wednesday afternoon to choose a national real estate broker to list the hotel.
