Alabama Snack Foods Company Announces Merger

Two well-known snack food companies are merging.

Utz quality foods of Hanover, Pennsylvania is buying Birmingham, Alabama based Golden Enterprises, Inc., which is the owner of the popular Golden Flake brand snack chips.

Golden Enterprises CEO Mark McCutcheon says the merger will “allow the Golden Flake brand to continue to grow in our core southeastern markets, while expanding the product selections for consumers.”

According to a Golden Enterprises press release, Golden Flake will operate as a separate subsidiary under the leadership of its current management team and continue to be an important part of Birmingham as “The South’s Original Potato Chip!”

Pending federal approval, the deal is expected to be finalized later this year.
