Troy Pediatrician Shares Medicaid Funding Concerns

Doctors across the state could soon see major funding cuts when it comes to Medicaid.

If a special session does not happen before August 1st. Doctors could see the effects. Doctor Elizabeth Dawson of Charles Henderson’s Child Health Center says 47 percent of children in Alabama receive Medicaid services.
If funding decreases, doctors say patients won’t receive the proper care needed. Dawson says 70 percent of her patients use Medicaid. Cuts could decrease revenue in many of her services by 33 percent.

“Rural areas like troy rely on medicaid funding for our hospitals and our doctors to stay afloat because we don’t have as much revenue coming in,” says Dawson.

More than half of the births in Alabama are covered by Medicaid.
