Five candidates are running to be mayor of the city of Selma — and residents will have the opportunity to see and hear them all — at a candidates forum this weekend.

Its a crowded field of candidates in the race for mayor in Selma.

Candidates include Ward 3 City Councilman Greg Bjelke, incumbent Mayor George Evans, Baptist minister Jerria Martin, State Representative Darrio Melton and former Selma mayor James Perkins, Junior.

A candidates forum organized by a local faith-based civics group will be held Sunday.

“We want to give the candidates a way, a stage, a way to say to Selma what their plan is, what’s their strategic plan. What are the plans to move Selma on to greater heights,” said Juanda Maxwell.

The Selma Mayoral Candidate Forum is Sunday, July 31st at the Selma High School auditorium at 3 pm.

Alabama News Network anchor Darryl Hood will be the moderator for the event.
