Bentley Says Lottery May Be Best Option for State Revenue

Seven Lottery BallsAlabama Gov. Robert Bentley said he did not think a state lottery was the “perfect option” for funding government, but said it was the only one left.

In an opinion piece submitted Wednesday to news outlets, Bentley expanded on his reasons for calling a special session on a state lottery.

The governor, who is a dermatologist, said he could not “watch as our most helpless and vulnerable people go without a doctor’s care.”

Bentley on Wednesday announced he was calling a special session for lawmakers to consider lottery legislation. The governor is expected to announce the date of the special session later this week.

Alabama is one of six states without a state lottery.
