Tax Free Weekend Critics
Weekend started at Midnight in Alabama
Not everyone supports the school supply tax-free weekend for school supplies that started at Midnight.
A report from The Tax Foundation says it just has people buying things this weekend that they would have bought another time. And the Foundation charges that some retailers go up on their prices to take advantage of the rush of shoppers.
The foundation writes:
Despite their political popularity, sales tax holidays are based on poor tax policy and distract policymakers and taxpayers from real, permanent, and economically beneficial tax reform. Sales tax holidays introduce unjustifiable government distortions into the economy without providing any significant boost to the economy.
