Auburn women’s hoops releases non-conference schedule
AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – Six games against NCAA Tournament teams and trips to Savannah, Ga., and New Orleans highlight Auburn’s 2016-17 non-conference women’s basketball schedule, which was released today by head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy.
The Tigers will play five home games at Auburn Arena in November and December, including two double-headers with the Auburn men’s team on Nov. 11 and Dec. 18.
Auburn’s five home games will come against Troy (Nov. 11), Indiana (Nov. 17), Savannah State (Dec. 11), Virginia Tech (Dec. 18) and Jacksonville (Dec. 28). Troy and Indiana advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2016, and Virginia Tech participated in the WNIT.
The Tigers will take road trips to North Carolina A&T (Nov. 17), East Carolina (Nov. 20), Kansas State in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge (Dec. 2), and Louisiana Tech (Dec. 14). Auburn also has two tournament events in the non-conference – a three-game Thanksgiving event with Ball State, Marist and West Virginia in the Savannah Invitational (Nov. 22-24) and a two-game tournament at Tulane (Dec. 21-22) that also includes Drake and Eastern Washington. North Carolina A&T, West Virginia, Kansas State and Jacksonville qualified for the 2016 NCAA Tournament, and Ball State, Drake and Tulane were WNIT participants.
The SEC schedule is slated to be released in the coming days.
Auburn is coming off a 20-13 season in 2015-16 and earned its 19th NCAA Tournament berth, advancing to the second round. The Tigers return four starters and eight total letter winners from last year’s squad.
