Hammock, McCain In Runoff For Tallassee Mayor
It was a crowded field of four heading into Tallassee’s mayoral election.
After some questions about whether or not some candidates even lived in the city, the election comes down to a runoff.
It was a close race for mayor in the city of Tallassee, but the race isn’t over yet. It’s not a runoff between Johnny Hammock and George McCain.
Hammock came out with the majority of votes, about 40 percent, but it wasn’t quite enough to win outright.
The race for second place, and a spot in the runoff was close.
Trey Taylor and Jeanna Kervin were only about 20 votes behind former mayor George McCain.
As both men gear up for the runoff, they’re enjoying tonight’s success.
“I was optimistic, I thought I was going to do well, but after those numbers, I think 41 percent, I never thought it would be that big of a jump. But I can’t get complacent, I got to step on the gas,” said Hammock.
“I’m proud to be in the runoff. It’s an honor to be able to do that. I just got to get back on the street and work real hard like I did before, maybe harder,” said McCain.
The election wasn’t just for mayor. Also, Sunday alcohol sales here in Tallassee, which passed with an overwhelming majority.
That runoff will take place on October 4th.
