Tuskegee Elects New Mayor

Longtime incumbent Johnny Ford’s loss to City councilman Tony Haygood. After serving as Tuskegee mayor for decades Johnny Ford is now the out going mayor after tonight’s election. Tuskegee will have a fresh face as the head of the city. Tony Haygood received a lot of handshakes and hugs as soon as the city clerk announced the results. Haygood won 62% of the vote. He currently serves as the City’s Councilman at Large and Mayor Pro tem. The Mayor- Elect says this election speaks volumes.

“The city of Tuskegee wants change. Our citizens have spoken, and they consistently said they want to improve things here. So we’re excited about it. We look forward to working with the citizens and begin to make improvements here to rebuild our city,” says Haygood.

When it comes to improvement Haygood says he wants to work on financial stability, revitalizing downtown, strengthen the relationship between the city and Tuskegee University, and work more on economic development.
